Welcome to The Brood's OGC Wiki. This wiki really consists of two parts - Shtar, our campaign world; and our material, which has a Shtar flavor, but is designed to be compatible with the core rules and can be used in any setting with little to no work. The Shtar section will contain everything players need to run campaign - core races and classes; world data, maps, information on various areas, organizations, and people, and more. Since this is an OGC world, players and DMs are welcome and even encouraged to make their own material and develop their own areas.

Shtar was created circa 1978 by a group of gamers playing 1st Edition AD&D. Much of the early history of the world was created by those and other players, and many of the important figures in history are former PCs. Shtar was a war world, a place where the Elder Gods created races and used them to fight their battles by proxy for glory and power, until those races finally rose and threw down the Elder Gods, ushering in the First Age. The races currently inhabiting Shtar have lost little of their warlike demeanor; over the course of the last 10,000 years, there have been nearly 20 world-spanning wars. Despite all appearances, though, the races are quite civilized - magic is used extensively to improve quality of life and create great works; technology, while not to modern standards, is still high, with running water, well-developed cities with actual sewage systems, advanced ships, etc. Behind it all, though, lurks the specter of war, an ever-present threat that people acknowledge but ignore until it comes to the fore and it is once more time to take up arms against their foes.

Shtar is a high-power, high-magic world, and all of the material in that section here reflects this. It is not, however, a place where the players will have an easy time of things. The people of Shtar are hardened in the fires of war, and the forces of evil are quite experienced in dealing with upstart heroes. Still and all, the world is large and varied enough that almost any kind of group can find a place to adventure and have fun.
